So-it's been a year and a few months.

The Atlanta Tri Club www.atlantatriclub.com had their Sunday ride in Cartersville this morning. They began with a transition clinic for beginners, which culminated into a group ride at 9AM. Since members are doing different target races, everyone had different amounts they needed to ride. Most of us stuck with the 31 mile loop or the 14 mile loop.

We started out as a mass, and split up into various paced ability groups. I decided to hang out with the slowbies because...well...at this point, I'm slow. My legs faired better than I expected. My lower back-well-that's a different story. The first 45 minutes were a bit painful. I'm blaming my extra weight, larger bewbies and general core weakness for that one! It was tempting to turn off at the 14 mile turn-off, but I continued on like Eeyore.

Here's what I noticed:
*I suck at climbling right now. Gravity is NOT my friend. As the weight falls off, the better it will get. Whilst suck on hills I do, Walk of Shame I did NOT!
*It annoys me when people break on downhills. In this case gravity IS my BFF!
*I'm still really strong on flats and can get a nice powerful pedal stroke in aero.

So-back to the title of my blog post!
Robert Wilhite is our new Head Cycling Coach for the Atlanta Tri Club! What a gem we found! My friend Tracey met him on a century ride late summer and told our club director about him. Before we knew it, we got a new cycling coach for the group! He was apparantly a golf pro on the tour back in the day, and like many of us, got introduced to a road bike along the way.
Check out his website: www.mycyclecoach.com
If you're in the Atlanta Area you should attend one of his cycling technique classes! Reasonably priced and much to learn!

Around mile 20 one of our cyclists had a major mechanical problem. Her chain broke. You know...BROKE! So folks-please make sure your chain is good-especially if you've been having problems in recent rides. So-us normal folk would call back for a ride, right? I mean...that's what I would do. Whatcha gonna do? Walk back 10 or 11 miles back to the start in your bike shoes, bare feet or socks? Ummm. NO! To my amazement, Robert pushed her back to the start. Hand on her back and pedaled. Did I mention we were in CARTERSVILLE? Hills I declare! He must've averaged 14-15 mph pushing her along the way! Anyone else in awe? Oh, I almost forgot to mention that he also picked up my water bottle that I lost off my bike and returned it to me at the finish. He picked it up sometime during his epic "push" to the parking lot!

On a more serious, yet totally awesome note-Robert will be hosting the first annual Jackson Brevet on June 19th. It's a serious note because it will be benefitting the Aplastic Anemia Foundation, a condition which Robert's wife suffers from. Last fall she suffered a near-fatal crash and had to be retreated for this condition. Apparantly, whichever treatment she received was the same treatment given her on another occaision 20+ years ago. There have been little to no innovations in the treatment of Aplastic Anemia.

Finally! A century ride on my side of the ATL! Lots of great door prizes! A brand new Cannondale bike will be auctioned off. I'll be there. Will you?www.jacksonbrevet.com

Question is...should I ride the 65 or 102?

Team Trakkers is off to a GREAT Start!!! Trakkers has Challenged Team TREK/KSWISS to a showdown at the upcoming Oly Rev in Knoxville this coming Mother's Day.

Man...I must admit-my favorite part of the day at Ironman Arizona 2008 was when Chris Lieto passed me on the bike loop in his cute little white shorts.

I've grown up since then...got remarried by Elvis in Vegas and had a baby. Heh-direct quote from one of my kiddos that I teach. You know the routine. Wake up at 4...poke around to try to make coffee...drink said coffee...hit the pool...hit the hot tub...shower and go to work.

So-I've been know to show up to work with goggle face and smelling like chlorine. Well-I still manage the goggle face, but I no longer smell like chlorinated funk! I smell like a nice citrus grove instead! Mmmmm. Citrus. Smells good enough to drink, but I wouldn't recommend that.

What's my secret? Do the Hollywood Stars do it too? That I don't know, but I do know all the super cool triathletes and swimmers are in on it.

SBR Sports makes some great post-swim products that I love love love! Their tri swim line has a shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. Did I mention they smell of citrus awesomeness? Well-I used to shower with "pretty smelling stuff," but I would often show up to work with goggle face smelling like chlorine with vanilla overtones. It kinda reminds me of that air freshener commercial where the kitchen smells like fish AND flowers. Not a good combo, right?

I'm not into the technical mambo jambo as to WHY this stuff rocks, but all I know is that this stuff takes the chlorine out of my hair. I've been known to sport some pretty bright colors in my hair, but unlike my formal post swim "pretty smelling" products, my hair stays shiney and my color doesn't fade. I sport red a lot, and everyone knows red can fade fast. My red is still...well...RED! It didn't turn orange or some other great crayola color.

I love using the body wash too. I squeeze my green-colored wash onto my matching happy green shower poof and wash that pool stank away. I feel like I'm in my own version of South Pacific, the musical. "I'm gonna wash that pool right outta my hair..."

Thanks SBR! I totally dig your products!
http://www.sbrsportsinc.com/sbr_product.htm

What a month! Thank goodness it's almost over!

Where did all this time go? This month has been the ultimate stressball-I'm glad things are starting to get better! I've finally got a moment and some quiet time to myself.

Ben's 5 months old now! He's finally back to being healthy-we think. Ben has been sick for over a month...and it all started with DAYCARE! We're lucky to have a daycare full of loving teachers and cute babies, but wow. GERMFEST! A week after Ben was there he developed his first head cold. You know-the kind where the stuff comes out his nose and you had to suction it out without throwing up whilst doing it. Unfortunately the illness went into his lungs within the week. Ben's also had 3 ear infections since then.
He's been on the following meds:
3 rounds of antibiotics
2 rounds of steroids
A month of nebulizer breathing treatments
Occaisional tylenol.

After all this the doctor decided he probably had RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). He was tested for it originally when he had "nose juice," but it was negative. They never retested when it went into his lungs.

The inlaws drove from CT to get him out of daycare for a week and a half to help him get better. It did a world of good! All the roids made him super strong. He rolls all over the place and scoots around. Time to buy gates and baby proof.

He was feeling better by the ING EXPO on March 20th-which was also my 32nd birthday.

Here's a pic of him and his new supa-hawt girlfriend! Can you say cougar?

This month I've also had countless hours of after school rehearsal with my Chorus of 50 4th and 5th grade students. They performed a musical called On the Radio. It was really cute! Elvis Presley made many appearances during the show. He even made one during World War 2. We're not sure exactly what Ben had, but the doctor suspects that it was RSV (respiratory sinct

Quilts & Steaks-What More Can a Mom Ask For?

Two days ago it was soooo dreadful outside. It was snowing and sticking on everything but the road. It's MARCH in ATL. Shouldn't I be putting on sunscreen by now? Gah...that means we have school. Sigh. Anyhoo-I eventually make it home from work and I see some gifts piled upon my porch. Damn! Missed the hot UPS man dressed in brown again!

My Dad tends to show his love with gifts. I mean-who doesn't like gifts? I'm definitely blessed and perhaps semi-spoiled. Maybe he is feeling guilty because Ben is 4 months and Dad saw him at 4 days. He hasn't seen him in a few months and will hopefully be visiting in April! Dad saw Ben at 9 pounds. Ben is twice his weight now at a whopping 18 pounds. He's also 26 inches and can bench press a teddy bear!
Besides loving his family, my dad loves food. Heh!
JACKPOT! THANKS DAD!
Nothing says love quite like Omaha Steaks!

Ok-so steaks excite me! What excites me even more is random gifts from random friends whom I've never met. We have a tight-knit group over on the MultiSport Forum on www.Kickrunners.com . A fellow triathlete and lover of all things bike related made Ben the most awesome quilt. I think it's quite funny that my husband thought it was a rocketship. Ummmmm. No. It's even better! Ironbaby will soon be a triathlete! We'll start swim lessons this summer! Thanks 4BoysMom!

Speaking of Ironbabies-I've been meaning to give a shout-out to my fellow IronFriend Melinda Byrne! She made Ben the cutest burp cloths! I'm glad she made them large because my little chunker is a reflux vomiter! How awesome are these?

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 314px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x9qt17bKTIY/S5BiPVeGyqI/AAAAAAAAACQ/7bbUGpPuM74/s320/burp1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444959965091908258" />

Since I'm going photo crazy, here the latest pic of Ben. I've been sick with a stomach bug & a sinus infection. Unfortunately, Don's been on 2 rounds of antibiotics and got 2 shots in the bootie. Ben. Poor Ben. He's been on breathing treatments and 2 rounds of abx. Who knew they make baby z-pack? Here's a pick of my boy wearing his purple chicken dinosaur mask. This evening was the first time he didn't SCREAM during treatment.the

With that said, it's been about 2 weeks since I've gotten any CONSISTENT workouts. When I could I would grab a swim or spin here or there, but I've felt too crappy to go "run." It seemed that the days I did want to go, weather was awful. FINALLY-a day without after school requirements for my music program...or without other exercise commitments.

There's a newish park not far from me-about 5 miles away-Harbins Park in Gwinnett County, GA. I've been working on getting in shape post baby. Because of my weight, I really don't want to be pounding the asphalt or concrete. I've been mostly ellipticating, walking or hiking as far as the "run" is concerned. There's a beautiful 4.5 mile hiking trail there...well maintained and easy to navigate. I get lost in Walmart. Yes. I have issues. Here's a pic of the nice dirt trail I went a runnin' on.

I was concerned about my run fitness. Who wouldn't be at this point? My biggest concern is to avoid injury while getting back in running shape. I have fallen arches and am currently overweight and SLOWLY moving down. These are two things that an athlete does not like dealing with. I needed a great pair of supportive shoes that offers a fair amount of cushioning for comfort. Back in 2005 I wore Saucony Grid Omnis. I did well with them. Then my local running store put me in a pair of Saucony motion control, which did a number on my feet. Discouraged, I went to Asics. I've had decent results as far as correction and comfort go. I decided I needed a change. I went back to my beloved Omnis! They're a road trainer shoe with moderate stability control & great cushioning-but they did really well on the trails today. I didn't have any traction issues, nor did I feel like I was going to slip or get tripped up. I guess I'm lucky to live where a great park system exists.
Here's a pic of me and my omnis. Notice how well the compliment my M-Dot tattoo!

Even though I had great results w/the Omnis on the trail, I think I will order up a pair of Saucony Trail Shoes. I don't know which ones to get.
http://www.saucony.com/store/SiteController/saucony/subcategory?trail=1002%3Acat520162&catId=cat10002&subCatId=cat520162
I'll call to see which will be best for a moderate stability runner. That razor model looks crazy! I wonder how they would fit my cankles.

Trakkers Teammates Tear It Up in VANCOUVER!

Trakkers Teammates Carole Sharpless and Andy Krebs tear it up in Vancouver in "Double Luge." I mean really-how did they end up in Vancouver when they've been torturing Team Trakkers with their stories of sunscreen misapplications and outdoor swimming in AZ?
Here is Andy:

Who doesn't know Carole?

So...I called Carole today to discuss some team "business." She's been out and about training hard, so I got voicemail. I left my usual chipper message and turned on the Olympics to check out some biathlon and luge.
Well, Ben has been sick...family has been visiting, so I was a bit out of it. Long week at school and busy weekend= Sherry falls asleep and has bizarre dreams...AGAIN!

Somehow, 99% of my odd dreams revolve around triathlon. A few of my favorites include getting disqualified from IMFL (which was staged at Stone Mountain, GA) because I drove to loop 2 of the swim. There was a 5 mile transition run in our wetsuits between swim loops. Another fun dream I had was when fellow SkirtSports athlete, Cathy Tibbets, taught met the priviledge of flying over Kona. Turns out after you complete Ironman #2 you get the super-hero ability of flight.

Back to today's dream. During Olympic coverage the commentators were discussing about the sunny and shady parts of the track. I'm such a visual person I kept thinking about how much that would bother me, especially because the majority of athletes had only a clear plastic mask covering over their face on their helmets. Before I knew it the men's competition was "interrupted" by pairs/double luge. I guess they have a new category for mixed double luge. I mean really. All the sudden the announcer announced Carole and Andy representing Team Trakkers. I guess we're our own nation now? It was doubly confusing because Carole insisted they wear pink instead of Trakkers Green (check out our cool logo):
www.trakkersgps.com

I wonder what Charlie would say about our Teamies wearing these supa-hawt outfits?
With the point in the toe and knee I imagine Carole is on top? Or is she?

So, with the sun being out and the track going between light and dark, they were out there to promote our sunglasses sponsor. Huh? (Wait-do we have one yet? Carole-snap to it babe!)

Not sure if they won or not. I was rudely interrupted by my cell phone ringing. Turns out it was Carole calling me back. Because I was in a comatose state and not used to napping during the day, I failed to answer. Since my sleep was cut short I have no clue if they medalled.

No Eggs in the Sauna!

Who uses eggs in the sauna? I managed to lose some baby weight before the holidays only to gain some of it back. Before the rain and cold spell hit Atlanta over this past month I would take little Ben for a daily 2 mile walk. Well...it rained for 2 weeks, then it was below 40 for the past bunch of weeks. When his reflux was behaving we were able to join the crazy mall walkers:) Don has been sweet and offering to babysit so I can go to the gym at night. When Ben's reflux was really bad I was just too tired to go. He'll be 3 months old on the 21st! He can drool, coo, eat without screaming too much, still spits up to 2 hours after he eats and poops anywhere from every 2-4 days. Best part is he's finally gotten the hang of sleeping through the night! Here are some pics of my little love chunk!
Crap...I gotta pull them onto photobucket from my desktop...soon! Until then...here's some cuteness from when he was a week old!

Back to exercise...babies are distracting, but in a good way:)
Been getting back into spin class. Most of the classes I've taken have been at Lifetime Fitness. I've taken a few with the Atlanta Tri Club www.atlantatriclub.com .
I'll go back to teaching spin with them next month. Spin has been interesting. I kinda sorta suck right now...then again, when I teach I don't keep people out of the saddle for the majority of class. Thank goodness no one has said the word "jumps" yet b/c I refuse to do those.

I haven't been running officially yet. I've been doing some walking and ellipticating. I want to lose a few more pounds before I start pounding the pavement. I also need to start taking my glucosamine/condroitin again. I'm hearing some crackies in the knees when I go up the stairs.

Swimming is going ok-slow-but ok. That's the least of my worries.

I recently took a yogalates class on Sunday. I used to do this class-same instructor-and it was supa-easy back in the days. Well-I knew my core was going to be weak-I could tell in Spin. I couldn't even do a sit-up. WOW! I need to pull out my big red ball at home and get cracking! Anyone tri wii fit yoga? Worth it?

Who colors their hair at the gym?

Apparantly someone does!

All sorts of weirdness goes on in the locker room at Lifetime Fitness @ Sugarloaf.
There's also a sign on the Sauna Door:
"Due to public health and safety the use of honey and eggs in the sauna is prohibited"

Two weeks ago I was swimming laps on a bright and dandy Sunday morning. I took a few seconds off of my 500M time, which is still a minute slower from pre-pregnancy. After my workout I hopped into Hot Tub #2 for a little reward of relaxation. All the sudden I hear some screaming. I was about to jump and run thinking that a fight was about to start on the pool deck from some crazy teens. Nope. I look out and notice in the leisure pool some old guy was actively and loudly practicing his kung fu and judo chops.

The following week I decided to join the old ladies in the leisure pool for some bad-ass water aerobics. I find it funny that one lady got mad that I jumped in the pool and splashed her. Anyhoo-I got out after class and went into the hot tub. Some dude had some tattoos on his back/shoulder blades. One was a tattoo of the state of GA and the other one was a tattoo of the state of Alaska. The tattoo of GA was larger than the Alaska one. Errrr. Whoops!

It's Swimmins Time!

Well...jumped into the pool for the first time in MONTHS yesterday morning!
Funny thing was the part I was scared of most was actually getting in the COLD lap pool at Lifetime Fitness! Who'da thunk-a 3 time Ironman afraid of a little bit of cold water. Yup. That was me!
Ben was up at 4 to eat, so after he went back to bed I got my stuff together, managed to shove my boobs in my "fat girl" swim suit and get out the door. I had put my gym membership on hold. W/that you can use the gym 2x a month. It's awesome when you go early enough to have 5 lanes to yourself. When I would go after work there would be all sorts of weird people in the pool. What would piss me off the most were the "bouncy noodle people" who would do water aerobics in the lap pool. That's what the leisure pool is for! ZOINKS!
After I mustered enough courage to jump in I began to swim. First 50M were AWESOME! I felt like a fish back in water. After that 2nd flippie turn I felt my arms. Holy cow I'm out of shape! My technique was fine...just out of practice! I was worried I would be a whole lot worse off.
I did a bunch of sets of 100M.
-Free
-Pull
-Drills
-Kick w&wo zoomers
-disastrous set of breast and back
I managed to slowly swim 1500 total. Stroke count was excellent (for me).

The best part was the hot tub when I was done! I haven't sat in a hot tub since the day before I found out I was pregnant!

So-I went back into the locker room, took my shower and noticed some signs on the dry sauna and steam room door. Something about health codes and not using eggs and honey in the spa. Holy Snort! It's amazing what some people will do to get those types of signs hung up. Glad I wasn't in the spa when the egg incident happened. Anyone who is friends w/me knows I have an odd fear of eggs. Yah...I'm a little bizarre when it comes to food.

Well...how exactly do you go from super morbidly obese to thin and back to fat and back to thin?

Seems easy enough, right? Well...with the pregnancy I gained....ummm...well...like 50 pounds. ZOINKS! Well...then again, I gained some weight before the pregnancy after I took off a month after Ironman Arizona, got sick, then got preggers. So...make it 50 plus a mystery number!

I need to get this weight off. I'm motivated. I have a race season ahead of me to include some Olympic Distance Events with the Revolution3 triathlon series www.rev3tri.com and with Team Trakkers www.trakkersgps.com

So, now that baby is out and mommy has her "body back" to herself, time to buck up, buttercup!

Here's a progression of me from over the years...can't believe I'm sharing some of the old ones. Zoinks. Imagine a girl in her 20s at 348 pounds. MISERABLE!
Here's me at my worst!

Then I lost it and became the poster child for weigh loss...for realz.

Then I got preggers...really a BLESSING! The reason I went on the weight loss journey initially was b/c a reproductive endocrinologist refused to help me get preggers due to my weight. Here are some pregger shots:)
Me in the PINK Trakkers uniform at Gulf Coast Half Ironman this past May-15 weeks pregnant. So many exciting things happening in triathlon next year!

First-a new race series has just opened up! Revolution3 http://www.rev3tri.com/ has 3 races slotted for the 2010 competative season. Do one race or do the whole series-it's up to you! I've had the priviledge of relaying in the 2009 Rev3Tri Half Ironman at Lake Quassy this past June. Let me tell you...IT'S A FIRST-CLASS EVENT!
This year there will be a series:
May 2010-Knoxville TN-Main Race: Oly, but there will also be a half IM Option
June 2010-Lake Quassy, CT. Main Race: HalfRev(Half IM) with an Oly Option
September 2010-Cedar Point Ohio. Main Race: Full Rev(140.6) with a HalfRev(70.3) Option.

Swim or No Swim, that is the Question!

So...rumors are floating around that the swim at Gulf Coast Triathlon Half Ironman is in danger of being cancelled.

Right now there is only a single red flag warning. Most normal people wouldn't be real happy about a SINGLE RED FLAG! I'm pretty sure we swam under red flag warnings last year.

Many gulf coast tri swims (like St. Anthony's) were cancelled b/c water conditions were too dangerous. I hope that doesn't happen here. I mean I'm ONLY doing the swim. What fun would that be for me if I watch my friend Maggie race and I've got NOTHING! Anyhoo...I'm pretty confident at this point we'll be swimming.

Just got to learn how to swim out of rip currents on the way in. I hear they aren't too wide across and swim parallel to the shore and head back in.

I'm slow right now due to baby weight gain, post IMAZ weight gain and just a general lack of swim practice. This whole pregnancy thing is throwing me for a loop! My energy is gone. I thought you were supposed to have great energy your 2nd trimester. I'm more tired than my first. I'm yawning as I type.

I'm not a good napper. I can't take a 10 minute power nap like hubby or good friend Cindy. I need at least 2 or 3 hours, or I'm a BEAR!!!!!!! R-A-W-R! Where does that leave me? I end up going to bed at 9PM as if I'm an old school marm. Then I wake up at 2:30 AM and can't fall back asleep. Everyone keeps telling me it's my body preparing for early morning feedings. Why can't my body prepare me to FALL BACK ASLEEP?

I have zero energy after school to workout. Going to Starbucks for a nice "energy drink" would probably not be the best idea.

On a happy note-I've been able to feel my baby flutter for the past week. Same spot everytime. Just over 5 years ago I weighed a whopping 348 pounds! I decided I needed to do something...I was infertile (even with meds) and couldn't walk down the hallway without sweating. Tie my shoes? FORGET IT!

In 2003 I underwent Gastric Bypass and lost an incredible amount of weight. I vowed never to get anywhere near the weight I once was. Losing the weight was the easy part. Maintaining...that's HARD!

To keep in shape I took up running...then triathlon.
